Shakers

Shakers Perfroming Arts Camp is our 5-week summer program that introduces inner city youths to Shakespeare. Three weeks for Session 1, ages 9-18 & two weeks for Session 2, ages 5-8.

Each season, our camp engages young actors and actresses in a one on one working relationship with accomplished dramatist for three camp sessions.

Our performing arts activities includes acting, dancing, and singing along with the technical side of theater which includes, lighting, stage design and costume design. A free lunch and snack is included. Both sessions conclude with a full scale production showcasing the the campers.

Past year classical productions included Shakespere's "Romeo and Juliet", "The Tempest" "Taming of the Shrew" and "Macbeth" on the Main Stage at American International College. Campers performed the traditional plays with updated 'hip' language and current pop hits. Continuing our tradition of introducing Shakespeare to the urban community, we will be introducing more works from William Shakespeare this upcoming season.

At Shakers, we also develop the first workshops and performances of new pieces from our in house team of writers such plays includes "Children In The Playground", "Broadway Here I Come" and "The Bridge Over Locluv".

Shakers Performing Arts Camp is a place where community youths get exposure to Shakespeare and grow into well rounded arts enthusist.
